The girls won 8 out of 10 games and tied 2 to take the title by one point from Hopewell Valley
The season came down to the wire on Sunday 11/22 with the Comets needing a win from their last game against Elizabeth Desportivo to ensure they were crowned Champions. Playing away on a not-so-good sloping surface the Comets were down by two goals early against a tough opponent. Digging deep, they battled their way back to score three unanswered goals to go ahead 3-2. But Elizabeth was not finished yet – they tied it up at 3-3. Many teams would be disheartened at this set-back but not our valiant Comets who then went ahead 4-3 and held that lead until a welcome final whistle was heard.
Coach Ray O’Hagan is justifiably proud of the season’s results which also included a Parsippany Tournament Cup win. “The best thing about this success” he said, “is that it came from playing good soccer, working the ball and lots of hard work from the entire team. We had great attendance at all practices and the work rate was always there. I am now looking forward to winter practice and scrimmages so we can prepare to play in Flight 1 in the spring and get the girls ready for High School next year”
